This time we are not going straight to the point to explain what is #TheWomenBeyond. We want to start this story (not surprisingly) by its beginning, when we say "We care how we get to the top".
If you have already read our values, you will know that this a key strategic subject at Critical TechWorks that translates our commitment as far as sustainability is concerned. And why is this important? Because one of our sustainable mission statements is focused on women in tech education and empowerment.
We shouldn't forget that gender equality still is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015. SDG 5 aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, recognizing that gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but also a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world.
Under the theme "DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality", the United Nations Observance of International Women's Day 2023 will highlight the need for inclusive and transformative technology and digital education.
Step by step we - as a company (and our people) - are already doing our share. How? - may you ask.
Through Geek Girls Mentorship Programme, that empowers women to succeed in their technology careers, Technnovation Girls Mentorship Programme, and Companhia do Estudo Programme. Through the work stream Motivar, during 12 months, 16 volunteers are helping young people, namely girls from Fundação Lar de Nossa Senhora do Livramento, achieve their best, in school and in their lives. In CTW Bootcamp, we are providing programming classes to children aged between 6 and 12.
Celebrating #TheWomenBeyond
We as a company Go Above and Beyond (also one of our values) to change lives for the better... We usually say that we have the courage, boldness and selflessness to pursue our beliefs and inspire others along the way. But this week, for obvious reasons, we will focus on how our Women are doing it...
We don't need to go back far behind. If we look at our mothers', grandmothers' and great-grandmothers' stories, many of them didn't live with the same freedom and opportunities. Today, millions of girls and women in the world are still subject to discrimination in the enjoyment of civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights.
Having this in consideration: yes, we will be celebrating Women's International Day! But we will also be celebrating our most import asset: our personal stories! We want to share our women's stories: their dreams, their experiences, their achievements!
We want to know Joana Madureira da Silva, Marta Fernandez, Andreia Faria, Ana Sofia Oliveira, Su Ferreira, Inês Mariano, Sharareh Monfared, Sónia Carvalho, not only as Product Visionaries, UX Design Gurus, Rockstar Developers, Marketing Genie. But as a van traveler, a runner, a scout, a trail runner, a climber, a fado singer, a piano player, a mother and women mentor.
We want to know them beyond their professional experiences.
So, #TheWomenBeyond is about us, about our Joy in Motion, as women, outside CTW. This is not just a campaign, we want to call it a project. In the future, we will be sharing more stories about our people.
