Besides the Open Days we had at the Lisbon and Oporto office within the scope of the Neurodiversity Talent Program, today we also have a special note from Marie Kolle, Director of Happiness, who is intensively working on bringing more awareness to the topic of neurodiversity at Critical TechWorks.

The first IT Neurodiversity Talent Program in Portugal

The first neurodiversity program in IT in Portugal was launched by Critical Software in partnership with Specialisterne and Critical TechWorks, which is looking to encourage individuals with autism to embark on a career in tech.

The aim is to enrich the company’s talent base further, looking for neurodivergent individuals passionate about technology and keen to work in software development.

Talents that can enrich any team and organization

Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) is a neurodivergence present from birth. Although it can be diagnosed in childhood, many autistic individuals reach adulthood before being diagnosed. Every autistic individual is unique, but some common talents include:

-Logical and detailed ideas, as well as independent learning and thinking;

-Highly visual thinking and great long-term memory;

-Honest and direct feedback and non-judgemental listening skills;

-Persistence, accuracy, attention to detail and technical ability.

Studies suggest that the inclusion of neurodivergent employees is linked to several positive organizational outcomes, such as superior financial performance for the organization, reduced turnover and low absenteeism, and increased organizational productivity through the development of diverse skills in the workforce, which fosters creativity and innovation, enhanced group productivity, effective teamwork, improved organizational commitment across teams, and positive individual outcomes, such as well-being and higher performance levels.

“Our company culture promotes a culture of belonging and allows everyone to be their authentic selves. Therefore, it is essential that, together, we remove barriers to disclosure of neurodiversity. ”

Neurodiversity at Critical TechWorks

At Critical TechWorks, we strive to bring more awareness to neurodiversity and believe that a diverse team produces better and innovative outcomes.

The specific needs, in terms of planning and organization, motivated our neurodiverse teams to clarify procedures better and to meet more often, which had gains in effectiveness and efficiency. Adjustments made and contact with neurodivergent colleagues led to personal growth and development for everyone involved.

Our company culture promotes a culture of belonging and allows everyone to be their authentic selves. Therefore, it is essential that, together, we remove barriers to disclosure of neurodiversity.

The Open Neurodiversity Day is an opportunity to invite potential candidates, their families and organizations to get to know the program and our company. Additionally, it’s the perfect timing to share the message that the applications for the Neurodiversity Talent Program, in partnership with Specialisterne, are already open!
